Grapefruit – sweet and tangy, stimulating and refreshing

The citrus grapefruit note is very popular in the perfume world. The sweet and tangy aroma of grapefruit has inspired many perfumers for the creation of both female and male fragrances. Stimulating and refreshing, grapefruit blends exceptionally well with many other notes, such as bergamot, lavender, geranium, Palma Rosa, frankincense, neroli, rosemary, cypress, juniper, jasmine, rosewood, and ylang-ylang.

A relatively young species, grapefruit was first bred in Barbados in the 18th century. It is believed to be a natural mix of the fruits pomelo and orange. It is a relatively small tree that grows in clusters (looking like big yellowish-orange grapes). Its color may vary from almost white to yellow, orange, and ruby red. The main producer of grapefruit is the USA (with Florida taking a third of the production alone).
